Fire Extinguisher Hydrostatic Testing

Did you know that fire extinguishers are your first line of defence against small fires? Fast action during an emergency can save lives and minimise damage to your property.
In order to make sure your fire extinguishers work effectively during an emergency you need to make sure they have regular maintenance. This way, you won’t be left exposed to a dangerous fire without something to fight it with.

Take a look at our fire extinguisher testing services now and let us know if you have any questions. Our technicians perform all sorts of tests to make sure your extinguisher is safe. This includes fire extinguisher hydrostatic testing.

What is fire extinguisher hydrostatic testing?

The contents in your fire extinguisher need to be kept under pressure for a long amount of time to ensure they have enough force to extinguish a flame when they are released. Over time, this pressure can cause damage to your cylinder.

To check that your fire extinguisher is still functional, a pressure test, or fire extinguisher hydrostatic testing needs to be conducted. Each component of the extinguisher needs to be tested to make sure there isn’t any damage.

The pressure can be checked by removing the contents and filling the extinguisher with water whilst measuring the pressure. The hose, nozzle, and other components must be checked during this process.

For more information about fire extinguisher pressure tests, all you have to do is contact our team and we can answer your questions. One of our technicians can talk you through the entire process — or better yet, they can show you while they are on site.

Pressure testing is a requirement under the NZS 4503:2005 standard for hand operated fire fighting equipment. The intervals in which your extinguishers need to be tested can vary, but pressure tests are usually reserved for 3 yearly or 5 yearly inspections — they can be performed as often as every 12 months.
