Your safety is our business.

What are electrical testing and tagging?

Our services involve the inspection and assessment of electrical appliances and equipment in the workplace. These tests are conducted in accordance with the current standards for a safety inspection. At Jim’s Fire Safety, we work according to the AS/NZS 3670:2010 standard for the in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment. At construction, demolition, and mining sites, we adhere to the AS/NZS 3012:2010 standard for electrical installations.

One of our technicians will visit your property and inspect your equipment. This will involve a visual assessment and an electrical check with a portable appliance tester. We use standard industry equipment to conduct all of our tests. Every technician is trained to operate the PAT tester and to complete accurate risk assessment procedures in your workplace.

Why do I need electrical testing services?

If you own or operate a business, you need to manage any safety risks to your staff or other persons on your property. This means regularly checking any in-use electrical appliances or equipment must be tested and tagged. Providing a safe working environment is a legal requirement in New Zealand and you may be penalized if you fail to eliminate risk.

What do I need to test?

The test we complete will vary based on the nature of your business and the type of equipment in use. As a general rule, any appliance that plugs in needs to be tested. This includes power cords, power boards, and any other power distribution equipment.

If you run a business, you need to make sure all of the following items are safe to use:

  • Power distribution equipment (extension leads/power boards)
  • Electrical tools
  • Appliances (kettles/coffee machines/etc.)
  • Office equipment (printers/copiers/etc.)
  • Commercial cleaning equipment (vacuums/power cleaners/etc.)
  • Miscellaneous electrical equipment

How often do I need test & tag?

The intervals vary from workplace to workplace. The intervals we assign are dictated by the AS/NZS 3670:2010 and the AS/NZS 3012:2010. There are different requirements for a range of businesses and environments including businesses where hire equipment is in use, or businesses that conduct commercial cleaning. In any case, you can discuss your specific requirements with one of our technicians. Call us now to find out how often you need test and tag services in your workplace.
